Manana Odisheli is an art historian and archaeologist born in Tbilisi, Georgia, and based in Oxford, England. She studied Art History and Aesthetics at Tbilisi State Academy of Arts and completed postgraduate research at the Ivane Javakhishvili Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography, where she earned her PhD in Art and Archaeology.
She has held academic positions as Visiting Professor at the University of Colorado and the Scuola di Specializzazione in Archeologia at the University of Catania, and worked as a Senior Researcher at the Centre of Archaeological Studies of the Georgian Academy of Sciences. She also lectured in archaeology and art history at several Georgian universities.
Her research includes participation in international archaeological expeditions, notably the joint Georgian-British excavations at Pichvnari and the Austrian excavations at Ephesus. She has been a visiting scholar at institutions in Oxford, Vienna, St Petersburg, and Moscow, and has delivered lectures worldwide on Late Antiquity art and archaeology.
Dr Odisheli is the author of numerous publications on Georgian archaeology, mosaics, and Roman-period Georgia, and has contributed to major reference works, including the Oxford Dictionary of Late Antiquity. She is also an experienced translator of academic and museum publications between Georgian and English, specializing in art history, archaeology, and cultural heritage.
